Mayo Sonko

Project Manager

Mayo comes to the Harwood Institute with several years of nonprofit experience. Her commitment to the work began with her term of service as an AmeriCorps member with Public Allies, DC - a program whose mission is to create a just and equitable society and the diverse leadership to sustain it. Since then, she’s worked with organizations focused on national service and education with expertise ranging from program implementation to project management. As the Project Manager for the Institute, she is responsible for managing all activities related to the organization’s project and initiative streams.

Mayo graduated from Macalester College where she studied Political Science and Urban Studies. She earned her Master’s degree in Public Policy and Management from the Heinz College at Carnegie Mellon University. In her free time, she enjoys playing soccer, finding new music, and exploring new places. She’s very excited to join such a large network of forward thinking individuals.
