The Harwood School

Over our 35 years of experience, we have developed and tested the ability to teach people our approach. Through The Harwood School, we are scaling our efforts to make this training available to everyone, everywhere.

The current focus of The Harwood School is three major initiatives:

  • Public Innovators Labs: A set of interactive learning experiences that teach individuals the practice of Turning Outward so they can take action, create meaningful change, and unleash the potential of their community. The Labs are aimed at daily practitioners who are interested in learning a different approach to creating community-centered change.

  • Catalytic Community Guide Program: A intensive training program for individuals who have a desire to guide their community, organization or groups to create lasting change using the road-tested Harwood approach. In this highly interactive and deeply engaging program, participants learn the catalytic mindsets and tools to guide others toward using the Harwood approach to harness their innate capabilities and unleash their individual and collective potential. Upon completing the program, Harwood Catalytic Community Guides will help people in their communities catalyze and unleash a chain reaction of actions that address fault lines and strengthen their communities’ civic cultures and grow civic faith.

  • The CIRCLE of Catalytic Funders: An intimately connected group of funders committed to collectively discovering and developing new ways to accelerate and deepen impact in communities and people’s lives. The CIRCLE is for philanthropic entities that have already used the Institute’s approach and those who are new to the approach and who seek to learn from it. The CIRCLE will help develop and spread new community-focused philanthropic approaches and resources.

Increasingly, communities around the country are engaging with all three elements of The Harwood School, developing an ecosystem for growing Civic Faith.
