Bethesda, MD - September 13, 2018 - The Harwood Institute for Public Innovation and the Stewards Individual Placement Program announced a strategic partnership to train AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps VISTA placements on how to better engage the communities in which they serve.

The Stewards Individual Placement Program places nearly 600 members each year, serving local communities across the country. These members will become trained in the Harwood practice of Turning Outward, a road-tested practice developed over 30 years that outlines tangible steps for creating positive, lasting change in a community. The individual placements will participate in an 8-week Virtual Public Innovators Lab where they will learn how to better understand their community, improve programs and strategies, and engage the right partners to tackle shared challenges.

“This is an incredible opportunity to invest in the next generation of America’s leaders. We need them,” said Rich Harwood, President and Founder of the Harwood Institute. “We’re honored to have this partnership with the Stewards Individual Placement Program.”

“The partnership with Harwood Institute is very exciting for us,” said Rob Spath, Executive Director of the Stewards Individual Placement Program. “Having a proven, high quality provider available to teach our members will no doubt raise the bar for what they will be able to accomplish in their local communities.”

In addition to the Virtual Public Innovators Lab, placements will also participate in a two-day in-person training in October. A certified Harwood Coach will be participating in this training to prepare placements for the 8-week course.
