Insights from Engaging Frontline Civic Leaders

We recently completed a nationwide questionnaire of frontline civic leaders from libraries, United Ways, foundations, nonprofits, and faith institutions across the country. Over 300 frontline civic leaders shared valuable insights on what they’re wrestling with, their role in the community and their aspirations for moving forward. In July, Rich Harwood hosted a webinar on what we heard and what their responses mean for your work in communities.

Report: A New Civic Covenant - Jackson Ready to Step Forward

In the summer of 2019, The Harwood Institute for Public Innovation, in partnership with the Community Foundation for Mississippi, interviewed 25 community leaders to learn about their aspirations and concerns for the city, and then convened these leaders for a daylong meeting at The Two Museums.

This report details the outcomes of our interviews and the convening and provides the roadmap showing how the people of Jackson must step forward to forge new and stronger relationships and a can-do spirit.

Report: One Step at a Time - Winchester and Clark County Seizing the Moment

It has been nearly three years since the release of The Harwood Institute report, Waving the Community’s Flag, an in-depth look at how community members view Winchester and Clark County. At that time, in 2017, residents talked movingly of their abiding love for Winchester and Clark County, hailing it as a great place to live, filled with a spirit of generosity, small-town atmosphere, strong sense of belonging, and rich history. But they also described deep challenges.

One Step At A Time is a progress report, highlighting the many stories of action now taking root and the spreading of new productive ways of working together in the community. It is a roadmap for how to grow this progress over time.
