The Harwood Institute to Guide Libraries in Turning Outward Jan. 31 at ALA's Midwinter Meeting in Chicago

The Harwood Institute for Public Innovation will lead four sessions at the American Library Associations 2015 Midwinter Meeting in Chicago Jan. 30 - Feb. 2. Bethesda, Md. (PRWEB) January 21, 2015

The Harwood Institute for Public Innovation will lead four sessions at the American Library Association's (ALA) 2015 Midwinter Meeting in Chicago Jan. 30 - Feb. 2. The sessions will help libraries lead positive, pro-active change in their communities by turning outward, the Harwood approach to guiding people and organizations so that their communities are the reference point for their choices and actions.

The Harwood sessions (click here for information on all four) will take place at McCormick Place West in room W178 on Jan. 31:

• 8:30-10 a.m. CST.: Turning Outward to Lead Change in Your Community: Aspirations, designed to help librarians focus on community aspirations and identify the next steps for change.
• 10:30 a.m.-noon CST: Turning Outward to Lead Change in Your Community: Turn Quiz, designed to introduce librarians to The Harwood Institutes Turn Quiz tool and enable them to assess the focus of their efforts in the community as they shift their orientation from internal to external.
• 1-2:30 p.m. CST: Turning Outward to Lead Change in Your Community: Intentionality, designed to enable librarians to test the external orientation and mindfulness of their community engagement choices and decisions.
• 3-4:30 p.m. CST: Turning Outward to Lead Change in Your Community: Sustaining Yourself, designed to help librarians map the components that feed their motivation and commitment for community work.

The sessions will be led by Harwoods Cheryl Gorman, Vice President for National Programs and Carlton Sears, Coach. The sessions are available as part of Libraries Transforming Communities, an ALA initiative conducted in partnership with The Harwood Institute to strengthen libraries roles as leaders and change-catalysts in their communities. Check out the Harwood-based tools for libraries.
