Julie Williams

Certified Harwood Coach
Australia

Julie celebrates, values and has great pride in her First Nations heritage. She has an enduring commitment to building community capacity through neighborhood centers and has been manager of the Mullumbimby District Neighbourhood Centre (MDNC) since May 1992.

In developing MDNC’s impact within the community over this time, Julie has encouraged synergies between community development practices and integrated service delivery and made MDNC a learning organization, building opportunities through a culture of reflective practice and learning. “Even the worst experience in practice is an opportunity to do better. In times of change and challenge…doing nothing is not an option.”

With experience in community consultation, planning and development, Julie has developed Domestic and Family Violence community programs across the Byron Shire and the Far North Coast. She has been instrumental in the formation and development of the Consortium of Neighbourhood Centres Far North Coast, the Byron Shire Aboriginal Coalition and many other community collaborations.

Julie has served as a Regional Representative and Board member for the Local Community Services Association (LCSA), the peak body for neighborhood and community centers in New South Wales. She became a Harwood Certified Coach in 2017 and has coached public innovators within the LCSA network.

Julie does manage to take time away from work and enjoys weaving, painting and hanging out with her grandchildren.
