Logan County, OH

Logan County is a great place to live. So many people love life here because of the close-knit, neighborly feel, amazing environment, great schools, and ongoing revitalization in Bellefontaine. Pride runs deep among residents, many of whom were born and raised in the area.

Yet amid all the good, real challenges exist. People want Logan County to keep building on the good and forge an even brighter future. To achieve this goal, the community has some fundamental questions to consider and act on, together. How does a community that has so much good going for it productively tackle its challenges? How does it face the hard issues and ensure that people with different perspectives and priorities have a real say?

Logan County faces a critical choice: Stay on the current path and potentially stagnate or get on a more productive path by coming together to forge a bright future?

As a down payment on this work, in 2022 Honda asked The Harwood Institute to identify key areas for strengthening the community’s civic culture and developing a shared purpose. The resulting report, published in November 2023 and titled Forging a Bright Future: How Logan County Keeps Building, presents what The Harwood Institute found.

Following the report’s publication, the United Way of Logan County stepped forward to steward a second phase of work in the community, which kicked off in early 2024 with a Getting Started Lab. Coming out of this initial lab, action teams formed around priority areas identified in the report—Health, Seniors, and Youth. A second lab, Unleashing Impact, will be held in fall 2024. Ongoing coaching and workspaces will take place throughout 2024 and 2025.
