Description: People love living in North River Manatee County. They enjoy the family-friendly vibe, great schools, sense of personal safety, unique and diverse communities, and beautiful weather. Lifelong residents can’t imagine living anywhere else and newcomers keep moving in, making this community one of the fastest-growing areas in all of Florida. But amid a period of rapid growth and change, people’s concerns are rising. Indeed, the community is growing and changing faster than anyone can keep up. Today, North River Manatee County faces a fundamental choice: Will the community further fragment amid the pressures of growth and change or come together to shape a shared future?
This report includes the main themes that emerged from conversations and interviews; voices of the people from North River Manatee County; a snapshot and analysis of the fundamental structures, networks, and norms of North River Manatee County through the lens of The Harwood Institute’s Public Capital Framework; and key recommendations for investing in and growing the community's civic capacities and renewing a sense of possibility and hope.
