Urge Within

Most of us set out with an urge to create deep and lasting change in our communities. Do you still feel the urge that brought you to your work? Does it still guide and inspire the efforts you’re making? Those of us engaged in public work come to it with with a desire to create change, an urge to make our communities healthier, safer, stronger, and more just.

That initial urge is for most of us a source of strength and courage, and it shapes how we go about our work.

But too often it gets pushed aside in the pursuit of  efficiency, “outcomes,” and best practices?

If we want to create the kind of change our communities need, we have to reconnect with the urge within.
