Harwood Holds a Workspace in Battle Creek for Community Leaders
Last week as part of The Harwood Institute's $1.95 million grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, community leaders from Battle Creek, MI, Detroit, MI, and Santa Fe, NM came together to share stories of local impact, learn from one another’s accomplishments and discuss the challenges they face in their work. Through the support of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, The Harwood Institute for Public Innovation, led by Rich Harwood, is working with teams in 3 local communities: Detroit, Battle Creek, and Santa Fe through a series of six intensive innovation workspaces, ongoing coaching, evaluation support, and creation of new tools and resources, as part of a three year initiative to improve the lives of vulnerable children.
William Burton, the lead coach for the Battle Creek team shared, “We know that we have many children right here in Battle Creek that are living in poverty, struggling in their education and family support, or are culturally isolated from the larger community. Our goal is to address the core issues of what makes children vulnerable in the first place, and bring about real change and authentic hope.”
